Steroid injection scar removal

Usually the effects of steroids become apparent over two weeks. If the scar tissue softens and flattens with the steroid injection, I will typically schedule the next injection in 2-4 weeks. In some areas, I’m worried the scar tissue will flatten out too much and become an indentation, so I will dilute the steroid injection to a weaker dose to prevent the scar from flattening too much and causing a dent. For some raised scars, the diluted steroid injection to not strong enough, so I will increase the concentration of the steroid injection for the next session. If the diluted steroid resulted in a flattening of the scar without overdoing it, I will simply repeat the same dilution and amount as I did the first injection.

Epidural steroids have become the gold standard for treating nerve-related back pain because, frankly, they work, where anti-inflammatory drugs such as Advil and physical therapy often fail. Numerous studies also show that epidurals even provide more relief than steroids injected into the muscle. "Epidural steroid shots stop irritated nerves from sending pain signals, reduce inflammation, break up scar tissue, increase blood flow to nerve roots, and wash out inflammatory molecules released from degenerative discs," says lead researcher Dr. Steven P. Cohen, professor of anesthesiology and critical care medicine at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and Walter Reed National Military Medical Center.

For severe cases, the keloid can surgically excised and given x-ray treatments to the site immediately afterwards, usually the on the same day. This works in about 85% of the most severe cases. Electron beam radiation can be used, which will not go deep enough to affect internal organs. Orthovoltage radiation is more penetrating and slightly more effective. There have not been any reports of this causing any form of cancer in many years of use, but it is very expensive. Silicone pads and creams are sold over the counter for use on keloids. These do benefit hypertrophic scars but will not cure a true keloid. However, they can reduce pain, swelling and itching from a keloid. They usually take 3 months or more to work.

The ‘Two-Pin’ technique increases sanitation for multiple dose vial users. They draw with the first pin, and then shoot/inject into the body with a new one. This procedure prevents any residual contaminants that may have remained on the drawing pin from being transferred into the body via the injection site. It also makes injection less painful since the drawing needle is necessarily dulled during passage through the rubber stopper atop the vial. A dulled needle increases injection pain because it doesn’t pierce the body as cleanly as an unused one. The protocol below is followed by AAS users who draw from multiple dose vials, but steps 4 - 8 are routinely disregarded by those users who draw from ampoules (also called ampules) and sachets.
